Numerical modelling of longshore currents in marine environment
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 8 › Nr. 1
AbstractThe present work carries out a parallel analysis between the performances and, on the other hand, of the restrictions of two different model systems designed to assess the nearshore circulation. These are SHORECIRC, which is a widely known general prediction system for nearshore circulation and ISSM (the Interface for SWAN and SURF Models). SHORECIRC is a quasi-3D model that combines a numerical solution for the depth-integrated 2D horizontal momentum balance equations with an analytical...

EVALUATION OF THE WIND INFLUENCE IN MODELING THE BLACK SEA WAVE CONDITIONS
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 13 › Nr. 2
AbstractThe present work is focused on the importance of the resolution and accuracy of the wind fields in modeling waves in the Black Sea. Two different wind fields are considered for forcing the third generation spectral wave model SWAN. The wind data wave model results are compared against ‘in situ’ measurements performed at the Gloria drilling unit and also against satellite data for a two-month period of wintertime at the beginning of 2002. Subsequently, the model simulations were extended ...

VALIDATION OF THE SWAN MODEL FOR THE INFLUENCE OF OPPOSITE CURRENTS ON THE WAVE SPECTRA
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 14 › Nr. 4
Abstract In many coastal areas strong currents may occur from tidal effects, rivers discharges and high waves breaking due to abrupt changes in local topography. The modification of the wave fields by currents and vice versa need to be predicted by reliable nonlinear numerical models, when wave and current coexist along and around the approach tracks of the ports and harbors, or in the areas of ongoing offshore and coastal developments, or in areas subjected to intense navigation. Various wa...

PREDICTION OF E-WASTE GENERATION BASED ON GREY MODEL (1,1) AND MANAGEMENT IN BOTSWANA
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 17 › Nr. 11
This paper seeks to evaluate the quantities of e-waste in Botswana from 2000-2019, with a view towards formulating an effective and sound e-waste management system. Due to a lack of complete historical records on e-waste quantity and quality, this was achieved by the Grey Model GM(1,1) forecasting method. Our estimations indicate that an average weight of about 293.18 tons of e-waste will be generated in 2019 in the country. Considering an economic lifespan of between 3 and 10 years, more e-wast...
