IMMOBILIZATION OF CONIDIOBOLUS CORONATUS ALKALINE PROTEASE ON WASTE FUNGAL BIOMASS
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 10 › Nr. 11
Abstract:Alkaline protease from Conidiobolus coronatus which is optimally active at pH 10 and 40°C finds application in leather and detergent industries as well as for recovery of silver from waste photographic films. The protease was immobilized in Ca-alginate, polyacrylamide gel and alkali treated waste fungal biomass (ATWFB). ATWFB was found to be most suitable among the matrices tested. Glutaraldehyde marginally increased the binding to ATWFB. Binding of protease to ATWFB seems to be through...

REMOVAL AND RECOVERY OF LEAD (II) FROM SIMULATED SOLUTION USING ALGINATE IMMOBILIZED PAPAIN (AIP)
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 13 › Nr. 4
AbstractLead (II) can bind with papain at its active site, destroying the enzymatic activity. Papain a sulfhydryl protease has beenimmobilized in calcium alginate bead for the purpose of removal of lead (II) from industrial waste water. Effect of lead (II) onthe enzyme activity of immobilized papain, has been observed. A detailed kinetic study has been carried out and the data arefitted to different kinetic models. EDS (Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry) and desorption study suggest that meta...

HYDROLASE ACTIVITY DURING MICROAEROBIC THERMOPHILIC DIGESTION OF SLUDGE AFFECTED BY SODIUM DODECYLBENZENE SULFONATE (SDBS)
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 15 › Nr. 2
In the presence of surfactant sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS), the development of main hydrolysis products (soluble carbohydrate and protein) and hydrolytic enzyme activities (amylase and protease) were monitored during microaerobic thermophilic digestion (MATD) of waste activated sludge (WAS). Results showed that the presence of SDBS remarkably increased the solubility of protein and carbohydrate into aqueous phase. The maximal concentration of carbohydrate and protein was 990.39 and...

SARDINELLE BY-PRODUCT HYDROLYZATES AS NITROGEN SOURCE FOR MICROBIAL GROWTH AND PROTEASE PRODUCTION
Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 17 › Nr. 11
Tunisian fish-processing industries generates large amounts of by-products. Their disposal is an increasing environmental and health problem. For an economic utilization, these by-products may be used in producing higher value-added products such as protein hydrolyzates. In this study, protein hydrolyzates with different degrees of hydrolysis (12%, 20% and 26%) were prepared from heads and viscera of Sardinella aurita using crude protease of Bacillus licheniformis NH1. The obtained hydrolyzates ...
