Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 7Nr. 3
AbstractMesoporous Ti-SBA-15 materials have been synthesized up to a Si/Ti ratio of 20 using a two-step pH adjusting method. Low angle X-ray diffraction and diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed that the optimal pH value to synthesize highly ordered mesoporous solids having Ti atoms primarily in tetrahedral coordination environments is around 7.5. The nitrogen physisorption and TEM indicated also ordered mesostructures having relatively large surface areas and uniform mesopore size di...

MICROWAVE-ASSISTED HYDROTHERMAL SYNTHESIS OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS BASED ON ZEOLITE-TiO2 NANOCRYSTALS
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 11Nr. 3
The composite materials based on natural zeolite and undoped and N-doped TiO2, i.e., Z-Na-TiO2 and Z-Na-TiO2-N, were successfully synthesized by solid-state reaction in microwave-assisted hydrothermal conditions. Undoped TiO2 and N-doped TiO2 nanocrystals were previously synthesized by sol-gel method. The X-rays diffraction results of TiO2 nanocrystals indicated that anatase TiO2 is the dominant crystalline type. The composite materials were structural and morphological characterized by X-ray di...

Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 11Nr. 1
The synthesis of vanadium oxide systems (with 5 and 20 wt% V2O5 loadings) supported on commercial γ-alumina was carried out by a wet impregnation method. The samples were characterized by low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (BET), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) method and by in situ electrical conductance/capacitance measurements. The adsorption of CO was used to investigate the acidic properties of alumina support and V2O5/-Al2O3 catalysts by FTIR spectroscopy. The catalytic acti...

REAL-TIME MONITORING OF AN URBAN RIVER CONTAMINATED WITH PETROLEUM PRODUCTS
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 11Nr. 2
Fluorescence spectroscopy is a promising approach to the characterization of natural aquatic components and organic pollutants, due to its rapid analysis and high sensitivity. Petroleum products had been studied, using fluorescence technique, in numerous occasions, as seawater and soil contaminant or as raw sample. Nevertheless, no complex assessment has been made on fluorescence real–time spectra of freshwater diesel oil contamination. This study reports a 5–days experiment on an urban rive...

PREPARATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND ADSORPTION PROPERTIES OF MFe2O4 (M = Ni, Co, Cu) NANOPOWDERS
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 14Nr. 6
Abstract MFe2O4 nanopowders (M = Ni, Co, Cu) were prepared using the precursor technique, starting from the corresponding metal nitrates and poly(vinyl alcohol)-PVA. During the heating of metal nitrates- PVA solution, a redox reaction takes place around 150°C, leading to the formation of M(II) and Fe(III) carboxylates. These compounds were used as precursors for the ferrites nanopowders. The desired ferrites were obtained by thermal decomposition of the carboxylates; the obtained...

REUSE OF MAGNESIUM WASTES IN HYDROTHERMAL SYNTHESIS OF A MAGNESIUM BORATE MINERAL: ADMONTITE
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 17Nr. 3
Magnesium wastes are among the gradually ascending and therefore challenging metal wastes, which are produced by many industrial activities. The purpose of this study is the usage of magnesium waste, a raw material in magnesium borate production by hydrothermal synthesis. Boron sources (boric acid (H3BO3) and boron oxide (B2O3)) react with magnesium wastes in order to synthesize the magnesium borate mineral of admontite (MgO(B2O3)3ꞏ7(H2O)). In addition to the synthesis from waste magne...

Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 17Nr. 7
Adsorption, desorption, and kinetics behavior of Gd(III) ion on chelating resin were investigated in this paper. Batch adsorption studies were carried out with different pH, contact time, and temperature. The adsorption of Gd(III) follows the Langmuir model better than the Freundlich model. The apparent activation energy Ea and adsorption rate constant are k308 4.16 kJ/mol and 6.01×10-5 s-1, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH, ΔS and ΔG indicated that Gd(II...
