MANAGEMENT PLANNING METHOD FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION FROM FOREST BIOMASS: DEVELOPMENT OF AN OPTIMIZATION SYSTEM AND CASE STUDY FOR A FINNISH ENERGY PLANT
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 17Nr. 3
In this study, we consider a potential Finnish solution to sustainable energy production to satisfy the European Union's forestrelated energy policies related to climate change. Conventional energy production includes a number of fossil fuel, peat, and renewable fuel procurement chains that supply a combined heat and power (CHP) plant during different periods of the year. In Finland, peat is commonly used as fuel by energy plants. However, it is not environmentally friendly because it is ...

SWITCHGRASS BIOMASS AS A SUBSTRATE FOR Camellia AND Cuphea PRODUCTION IN CONTAINER
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 19Nr. 1
In Spain, most substrates used in the production of plants in containers, are composed of peat in combination with other components such as pine bark, perlite or vermiculite. In order to find alternatives to the use of peat, shredded switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) biomass was evaluated as a component of the substrates. Five substrates were prepared with the following proportions, by volume, of commercial substrates:switchgrass: 100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100. Pots were filled with the ...

PHYSICAL STATUS OF TORRENT CONTROL STRUCTURES IN ROMANIA
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 19Nr. 5
Torrential watershed management actions should be integrated and their results designed to last for a long time. In Romania and in other countries, these actions cover the entire area of the watershed (slopes, banks, and riverbeds). They consist of complex sets of structural and non-structural measures and works designed to control runoffs and erosion, protect social-economic objectives and improve degraded lands. The most vulnerable structures are the hydrotechnical structures, which are place...

EFFECTS OF CARBENDAZIM ON DNA DAMAGE AND RETROTRANSPOSON POLYMORPHISM IN Zea mays
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 19Nr. 8
Carbendazim (CBZ, methyl 2-benzimidazolecarbamate) is used widely in agriculture against fungal diseases. We aimed to determine the effects of CBZ (0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 mM) on long terminal repeat (LTR) retrotransposon polymorphism and genomic template stability (GTS), DNA damage using ınter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) and inter-retrotransposon amplified polymorphisms (IRAP) marker techniques. Our results showed that all doses of CBZ compose retrotransposition polymorphism. In additional, ou...
