Enhanced decolorization of reactive blue 19 dye from synthetic textile wastewater through uv photolysis in alkaline conditions
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 7Nr. 2
AbstractLaboratory scale experiments were conducted in order to investigate the photolysis of Reactive Blue 19 (RB 19) dye using UV as the irradiation source in alkaline solution. The effects of operating parameters such as, pH, initial dye concentration, UV dosage, hydrogen peroxide and oxygen have been evaluated. The results indicate that the UV photolysis process in alkaline solution is ideal for decolorizing of RB 19 and it can be taken as a starting step to establish the economical feasibil...

DECOLORIZATION AND MINERALIZATION OF REACTIVE RED 198 IN SALINE WATER: PERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF PHOTOLYSIS, UV/TiO2, AND UV/ZNO PROCESSES
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 14Nr. 5
Abstract The objective of this study was to identify differences between three of the most conventional UV-based advanced oxidation processes, namely photolysis, UV/TiO2, and UV/ZnO for the decolorization and mineralization of reactive red 198 (RR198) model dye in saline media. The study investigated influences of solution pH levels, salt concentration, reaction time and dye concentration on the degradation of RR198. The most effective dye removal and mineralization was observed at pH levels...

REMOVAL OF DICLOFENAC FROM SECONDARY WASTEWATER EFFLUENTS BY FENTON BASED PROCESSES
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 16Nr. 4
This study considers the removal of diclofenac (an important representative of pharmaceuticals and personal care products - PPCPs) from the secondary effluents of Iasi municipal wastewater treatment plant by means of different advanced oxidation processes (homogeneous Fenton, photo-Fenton and photolysis), carried out in a laboratory scale reaction system. The influence of three qualitative or quantitative factors (Fe3+ concentration, the absence/presence of UV-A radiation and H2O2) was studied i...

UV-H2O2 ADVANCED OXIDATION OF ANIONIC SURFACTANT: REACTION KINETICS, EFFECTS OF INTERFERING SUBSTANCES AND OPERATING CONDITIONS
Environmental Engineering and Management JournalVol. 18Nr. 6
This paper deals with the degradation kinetics of an anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) under UV and UV-H2O2 advanced oxidation process (AOP). Experiments were performed in a batch reactor which emits monochromatic light centered at 253.7 nm. The photon flux of the UV reactor was 1.9(±0.1)×10-4 Einstein/L-min. Under direct UV, only 45% SDS degradation was observed at a fluence of 40.65 J/cm2 for initial SDS concentration of 0.35 mM. The apparent fluence-based pseudo...
