Abstract:
Accidental floods, occurred due to the failure of flood defence river work systems, must have a specific management, in order to
allow reduction of flood negative effects.
Floods appeared in the last years in many countries and those consequences lead to a new approach, meaning, flood risk
management, an essential role having the public awareness and human community involvement for avoiding casualties and
damage reductions. This approach is today general and opened a direction towards reacting to the new future challenges, by
introduction new concepts, like: ?more space to the rivers?, ?living with waters?, ?free way for waters? and especially, sustainable
development concept assimilation during the process of management flood risk. This study presents the measures, especially nonstructural
ones, measures associated to previous periods and during floods. These measures, included to the specific management
for accidental floods, are reducing the negative impact over the environment.
