ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF SOME INDUSTRIAL AND TRANSPORT ACTIVITIES ON SOIL BY THE GLOBAL POLLUTION INDEX Autori: Carmen ZahariaRevista: Environmental Engineering and Management Journal › Vol. 10 › No. 3 ![]() Abstract:
During the recent decades the environmental impact attributed to the economic development and population expansion becomes a constant preoccupation of the local authorities and also a growing public concern. Some economic activities developed into a Romanian industrial site were evaluated in terms of environmental impact assessment against the environmental component: soil. The evaluation procedure requires specific collection of soil samples from the investigated industrial site, analyses of some specific soil quality indicators and evaluation of soil pollution state using a combined alternative methodology of global pollution index (i.e. quality index (EQsoil) - evaluation score (ESsoil) based on a specific compliance scale ? alternative method (I* GP)). The calculated value of global pollution index (i.e. I* GP = 2.067) indicates a real situation of soil pollution state estimated as ?soil environment modified by the potential polluting activities generating discomfort effects and risks for life forms coexisting onto soil site?. This situation requires soil remediation action, periodic monitoring and control. |
