The national legal framework harmonization, including in areas concerning environmental protection, with the European
standards in the field, is a goal of paramount importance with regard to Romania's accession to the EU structures. From this
perspective, all the organizations, agencies and individuals operating in this field must be acquainted with the European Union's
programs of environmental action.
In this context, the paper aims to provide an overview of the relevant trends and developments in the integration of policies
applied in the county of Gorj regarding the compliance with the sustainable development principles, addressed ecologically,
economically and socially. The environmental dimension concerns sustainable consumption and production, natural resource
management and conservation, climate change and clean energy in the county of Gorj. The economic dimension refers to the
social and economic development (economic prosperity) and sustainable transport and the social dimension relates to social
inclusion, demographic changes and public health.
Although we are dealing with a global financial crisis, investors are seeking safe and exciting opportunities. Experts say the
turmoil in the industrial areas aiming the energy production will be replaced by new business channels such as the renewable
energy. In recent years the number of European energy companies has grown rapidly, and investments in renewable energy set
records every year.
