Starting from the destructive nature of the preventive and/or rescue archaeological researches, the archaeological investigations is
imposed by the steps of building, alteration, extension or repair on the works affecting the soil surface in the archaeological
heritage areas, regardless of the land’s region and ownership. Considering that geographical information systems (GIS) - that are
part of a broader class of information systems and are mainly characterized by data processing depending on its spatial,
geographical, territorial location, by coordinates, facilitating the spatial data processing and analysis, we can say that
geographical information systems can be a way of preserving the archaeological heritage.
