Abstract:

Energy Efficiency is a topical concept managed by a wide variety of individuals and institutions from very different areas, both
academic and professional. Economists, Engineers, Environmentalists, Lawyers and other specialists show, each one of them, an
specific dimension of this so relevant concept, not only for its implications on global evolution of Earth but for its impact on
benefit functions of enterprises.
What this paper proposes is to shape a theoretical framework in which, firstly, a benefit function which includes the productive
factor â€?energyâ€? is defined in order to derive, secondly, a measure –as an indicator- of energy efficiency from which to develop,
thirdly, an analysis and a critical interpretation.
